Modern architecture. The most famous functionalist villas.
VOJTÍŠKOVÁ, Lucie
The first part of the theoretical work is devoted to general modern architecture at the beginning of the twentieth century, its creation, original artists, and buildings created at that time. Closer, the bachelor work focuses on functionalism, both globally and in the Czech countries. The second part of the work describes the most famous functionalist architects in Europe who influenced other architecture works. The bachelor work's primary focus is on analyzing and comparing functionalist villas in the world and the Czech territory - Villa Savoye, Villa Tugendhat and Müller's Villa.
Karl Kraus - his writings' legacy and relation to today's journalism

It describes major moments of Kraus's life, his major works, relations to other influential individualities of his times and also his relation to Bohemia. The paper is focusing on description of his impact on Czech authors and the impact of Kraus' ideas and concepts at their work within the Czech cultural environment. It also presents overall perception of his activity before and after establishment of the Czechoslovakia. Kraus' public reading and lecturing activities are also analysed. As a conclusion selected themes are put into new light, Karl Kraus' work is assessed and from the content point of view proved relevant for today.
Villa Müller versus Villa Tugendhat - A Comparison of Two Different Restoration Projects of Modernist Buildings

1 English abstract: Villa Müller versus Villa Tugendhat - A Comparison of Two Different Restoration Projects of Modernist Buildings. The work compares two successful restorations of interwar Czechoslovak avant-garde buildings realized between 1995 and 2012. At first, the respective histories of both buildings are compared since their creation through two totalitarian regimes up to their restoration. The fates of builders and architects of both villas are also described. From the point of view of historic preservation the work describes the state of both buildings before the commencement of restoration. The errors committed by the original designers are also described here. The methodology of restoration of both villas stemming from the professional points of view and relevant laws governing heritage protection is also treated in detail. The emphasis is given on preparation works preceding the design phase - the historic-structural survey, which, in both cases, was conceived as above-standard. Due to their span, these surveys have marked a key moment in relation to the modern cultural heritage within the Czech context. Modern Architecture and The Concept of Space

This work deals with the concept of space in the works of Le Corbusier and Adolf Loos, because every comparison between their works is so interesting. Their ideas involved the next evolution way of the modern architecture. Furthermore, this work deals with psycho-social terms of space in the Czech discourse and it points out why was the idea of functionalism, in its purely technical form, unsustainable.

The Upholstery Firm Emil Gerstel Prague and Collaboration with Architects

The purpose of this thesis is to gather information on the furniture firm Emil Gerstel Prague in connection with collaborations with architects as interior designers. Emil Gerstel was in charge of the firm Before the First World War, in that period furniture influenced by Viennese geometric secession and by historicist tendencies was produced. A collaboration with the architect Joseph Maria Olbrich in that time is also mentioned. The firm was purveyor to the Viennese court. Around 1930 under the direction of Bedřich Gerstel was the firm on its peak. This period comprises the works on furnishing of the interior of the Otto Petschek 's villa in the Neo-rococo style, the collaboration with Adolf Loos and Heinrich Kulka on furnishing of the villa Müller and on furnishing of the family Semler 's apartment in Plzeň. Vladimír Grégr was the author of the Václav Maria Havel's apartment, his designs were influenced by organic functionalism. Most of the Gerstel's customers came from wealthy families, their property was after the Second Wold War nationalized.
